Cut work Checked Design

This tutorial blog explains how to fix the cot, mark the measurements from the measurement blouse, trace the design, complete the work and finally cut the fabric.

First fix the fabric in the cot. Before fixing the cot few things have to be prepared like fixing the thick white thread in all the holes of the cot and attaching the white fabric cot cloth. Along with the four stands and four needles to be kept ready. Now the cot is ready to use and fix the fabric.

Now take the fabric which you need to work and fold the corner slightly and start with the running stitches and fix one end.

The reason for a small fold is that the cloth will not get damaged. After fixing one end remove the running stitches out to attach the cot cloth the white fabric below.

Next roll the other end of the fabric along with the cot neatly and tightly till required.

Once the rolling is done fix the needle in the holes. You should right the cot as much as possible and fix the needles in the holes on all four sides. Now two sides of fixing the fabric in the cot is done.

Next to fix the third side as the distance between the cot and fabric is too long tie a white thread closer to the fabric. Take four to five strands of white thread.

Now start with two to three running stitches and roll it over the white thread attached and again continue with two to three straight stithes and again roll it over the white thread and attach the third side.

Tight the thread as much as possible and fix the edges.

Similarly continue the same process on the fourth side with two to three running stitches and roll it over the cot and fix the edges tightly.

Now the fabric is fixed in the cot on all four sides and it ready to work. Make sure all the four sides are fixed tightly.

Take the measurements from the measurement blouse and draw the sleeves on the tracing paper. This is a checked design with one flower and cut work. While drawing the checked boxes always start from the center and check if the diagonal box is correct. Then continue with the lines in the sides with equal distance between them. Always fold it into equal halves and start the designing so the other half tracing can be easily folded and taken.

Now after the boxes are ready fill the boxes with any design as you wish and matching to the saree. The boxes size can also be adjusted as your wish. However make sure all the boxes are of equal sizes. Also plaa the work and give the space accordingly while tracing the design. Here am going to use stone chain and bead so the double line spacing is drawn. Next take another piece of tracing paper and draw the flower design. Keep it under each box and trace it easily so all the flowers are in same direction and equal in size. Do not draw in free hand in all the boxes.

Once you complete one half of the tracing just fold and rub with a coin to get the design on other half easily.

Now the tracing for the complete sleeve is ready. Now using a pinning machine or a thin needle make holes closely on the design drawn. Do not leave any lines and design. After the holes are done take a mixture of tracing powder and kerosene and trace the design in the fabric.

Start with the stone chain in the center. Measure and cut the chains to the correct size and attach them.

Next fill the flowers with saree colour thread using short and long stitch.

To do the cut work in the alternate boxes complete it with chain with zig zag stitch.

If you have put only chain stitch then you need to fix it wil glue and dry it and then cut the fabric. In case of chain with zig zag glue is not necessary.
