Aari embroidery AARI EMBROIDERY By Prisara@321123 0 Comments Posted on February 14, 2025 Aari embroidery is style of embroidery which is done on a stretched fabric and stitching the design with a long needle that has a hook at the end. This needle technique is from MOCHA community who use this type of needle to stitch complex and intricate patterns on the leather footwear. Aari embroidery is done by tightening the fabric to be embroidered upon the khatia other wise cot or adda frame and creating the thread work on portions on the stretched fabric with an aari or crochet-hook like device. This style resembles to chain stitching. Aari work was created way back in 12th century, which had the rule of Mughal emperors. Traditional design had fascinated the Mughal royals which popularized and brought aari work to the notice. As aari owes its origin to Mughals, it is still practiced in Rajasthan, Lucknow and Kashmir. Aari is most famous in the region of Kashmir and Kutch, gujarat, Aari embroidery is also known as embroidery hook, used for creating various of patterns, including birds, and designs on fabric with thread, beads, embroidery wires and stones. Aari embroidery is founded in Barabanki, the variants of aari is practiced by Rabari tribe in the Kutch region of Gujarat. The embroidery is a part of chain stitching. The patterns or the designs are mainly from Mughal times. As seen the designs are inspiration from Mughal times, and the art flourished under the backing of the Mughals. The main tool used in this design is aari embroidery, it is a hooked needle, a big needle with a bending at the end. By the different approach to the design and the color used and the motifs in the design are represented in this aari embroidery. One of the famous and much used material is aari work is Zari or the Golden colored metallic thread. Good quality yarn threads in cotton, silk are also used in multiple colors. The materials used to create the enhancing beauty of the embroidery of dress/outfits are Kallavattu, Sitara, Moti or Salma, Dabka, Nakshi, Aara and Gata, Beads, Sequins etc. Few tools required to create this amusing wonder 001:- The first style is where the cot or adda over which the fabric will be tightly stretched and attached tightly at four corners, this allows the experienced and skilled workers to design at four different corners of adda. Which speeds up the work. 002:- The second style is the Aar/Karchop or the needle. It is similar to the one used in crochet work. 003:- Scissors to are used at time and again to cut loose the hanging threads, after the knots are made. The first and foremost step of aari embroidery is of tracing of the design, the design that is to be made on the fine tracing paper. Later a drawing pin is used to create small holes long the lines of the design. A mixture of kerosene and robin blue is made and rubbed on all parts of the design, keeping it on the desired portion of the fabric. The mix seeps through the pin holes onto the fabric and the design is now available on the fabric. Those good at free hand drawing will be doing a light marking with pencil on the fabrics. Later the fabric is tightly drawn over the frame and kept taut on all sides. The pressure on all sides are equally distributed, sometimes if the fabric is smaller then a smaller metal frame could be used for tightening of the fabric.The work is later done over the traced designs. The karigars who design the modernistic, stylish, traditional outfits are the result of their years of experience and patience to stitch with that amount of patience. They are mostly Muslim cobblers who work on this designs. A work that has hours of dedication onto complete a single outfit. The aari embroidery is mostly recognized on the blouses of women. The blouse will have the amount of design that will very well contrast the saree, it may contain all the beads, moti, or other materials that will emphasize the attracting of the blouse look, it will make a very rich, charm to that entire outfit. These blouses are created on different style, with different design, different color which will always match the saree. The pattern on every blouse is done will be matching the sarees style, which will have only the amount of beading is necessary on the blouse to match the saree, it is same with the saree.
