First Live Session

I have conducted the first live session on Friday between 11AM-12.30PM to interact with all my students and clear their doubts. I have listed below all the questions asked and the most frequently asked questions for your reference.

It is difficult to take the chain above the fabric?

It is always easy to take the thread from below the fabric only when you twist and take it. Make sure the thread is about to come out of the fabric and twist the needle in half rotation towards the left side and the thread will easily come out inside the previous loop.

While taking the thread out the thread of the fabric comes along with it. How to avoid it?

When you prick the fabric in the same place for 2-3 times the cloth gets damaged and slowly the cloth fabric starts coming out and that is the reason when you take the thread out the fabric thread comes along. In the beginning it is a common problem faced however as you practise you can overcome this issue. In case if the fabric is damaged by pricking 2-3 times just put a little bigger chain to avoid the place and continue the stitch.

While putting the chain stitch the gold zari and the white thread comes separately. How to avoid it?

When you keep pulling the thread too much the gold zari thread and the white thread comes separately. All the zari thread will have a inner white layer so make sure to handle the thread softly without pulling it too much. Again in the beginning you will face this issue. In case if you find it difficult to continue with the white thread to put a chain stitch, you can cut the thread put a knot like you start in the beginning and continue fresh with undamaged zari thread.

The frame becomes loose as we continue the stitch. How to solve it?

Without realising when we put the stitch we will give all our pressure on the fabric and eventually the fabric becomes loose from the frame. Make sure you just balance your hands and not put all the pressure on the fabric. Also make sure the look is tight in the frame.

Can we do the design in A4 size?

Yes you can do but A4 is too big for the design and you will end up spending a lot of time to complete it. A5 is recommended which is half of A4 size. You can check with the print out shop and ask them to give you the correct size and it is easy for you to complete. Too small will also be difficult in the edges and turns.

While putting the chain from bottom to top how should we turn the needle?

Usually i recommend to start the chain from top to bottom as it is the easiest way. However when you put the chain stitch from bottom to top you need to twist and turn the needle towards your right side half rotation to get a perfect chain. If you turn in the left side the chain may get twisted. If you find it difficult in the beginning from bottom to top you can turn the frame or the stand and continue doing it from top to bottom as usual. But i would recommend to learn on all the directions.

Needle size to be used?

Always for thread work use 14 and for bead and zardosi work use 24.

What can we do when the thread is cut inbetween?

Just put a knot as usual while you start the stitch and continue from the last two stitches. This will not remove the stitches and also you can continue with new chains.

The cloth gets shrink when we put the stitch. How to get it neat?

When you pull the stitch tightly the cloth gets shrink. So make sure to handle the thread softly without pulling and giving more force to pull the thread to take the chain up the fabric. Also if the frame is loose the cloth will shrink.

Knot is too difficult is there any other way to put a knot?

This is the easiest knot as i knfrom my experience. In the beginning it will be difficult but as you practise it is very easy. While putting a knot put a big chain and keep the next loop insidethe needle and take the previous chain from right to center and start pulling the thread below the fabric slowly. The thread will pass over the needle and go down and become a knot. Later you can take the needle out from the loop that you are currently holding. While putting the knot it is tight but after sometimes it get removed. What can be done for that?

If it gets removed it means that you have not put thd knot correctly. Once you put a perfect knot it will never come out. Make sure to practise it well because once the stitch gets removed all the stitches will easily come out. Especially in bead work you need to be more careful while ending the knot.
