How to fix the cot

Updated: Jun 21, 2023

Cot is used by professional aari/maggam embroidery workers to give perfect finishing. Fixing the cot is quite challenging however once you learn and used to it you can fix it within 20-30 minutes. I will show you step by step on how to fix the cot.

Cot comes with 4 pieces. Two bigger ones and two smaller ones. The smaller ones has lot of holes which is used in the side. The main two cots has single holes where you need to fix with thicker white thread as shown in picture. You can start to fix the cloth with a big needle and white thick thread. You can ask for cot fixing thread in embroidery shops. Start with normal running stitch and fix till the end.

Put the stitches tight as the cloth will be fixed properly. Complete till the end and put a knot or continue the running stitch in reverse way for 3-4 stitches so it stays fixed.

Once the stitches are completed roll around the remaining fabric in the opposite cot piece as shown in picture and insert the other two cot pieces in the big hole of the main cot piece and tighten and fix it with the iron needle as shown in picture.

Next start with same running stitches on the other side and roll the thread over the cot for every 3-4 stitches and finally roll the thread over the needle.

Rolling the balance thread over the needle to tighten it.

Continue the same process on the last side of the fabric to finist the fabric fixing in the cot.

Use these type of iron stand/legs on all four sides of the cot or you can also use a plastic stool of the same size.

Finish the process and tighten the thread and fabric and roll the balance thread over the needle.

Finally check if the fabric is tight and you are all set to start the work.
